The children are back in school and it's starting to get dark earlier in the evening. There's a crispness to the morning air that reminds you of apples, bonfires and football. Fall is almost here - but that doesn't mean it's time to abandon your backyard!

With the mild climate in the Southeast, fall is the prime time to take on those bigger outdoor building projects. Whether it's decks, gazebos or dog houses, here are some fantastic ideas to spruce up your fall yard:

  • Get Decked Out. Deck builders aren't as busy in the fall as they are in the warmer months. Do your research, find a good one in your area, and build that awesome wood deck you've always wanted. Get started now and you can entertain your friends before and after fall football games! For complete information on building and maintaining a wood deck, visit www.realoutdoorliving.com and click on the Authentic Deck Guide.
  • Projects! Not sure what your backyard needs? Check out the 5-Project Brochure and project podcasts at www.realoutdoorliving.com. Garden benches, planter boxes, potting tables - it's all there, and they're easy to make.
  • Want to know more about wood products in general? Keep your eyes on www.realoutdoorliving.com for a cool new educational video. You'll know more about wood in six minutes than you ever thought possible.

As with any backyard DIY project, building product selection is important. For all of the above projects, I choose pressure-treated Southern Pine. It's a no-brainer to me: pressure-treated Southern Pine is real, it's genuine and it's a beautiful product. It's natural, long-lasting, sturdy and safe; you just can't go wrong with wood. If you're conscious of your carbon footprint, then wood is your product: it's one of the only naturally renewable products out there, and it takes remarkably less energy to manufacture than alternative building products. It's the real thing for real families.

See you next time!

Regards,

Brad
